MEET EDDIE

There’s no better sight than when Eddie Miller, encouraged by a crowd chanting “Eddie, Eddie,” steps across the finish line with a big smile on his face.

The Go Eddie 5k is a fundraising effort to raise as much money as possible for Eddie Miller’s continued care.

In 2011, Eddie Miller, of Mt. Hope, was involved in a horrific auto accident. Each summer for the past several years four of Eddie’s classmates from school have organized a fundraiser to assist in Eddie’s extensive medical costs. What started out as a basketball tournament has now transitioned into a community 5k race. This year will be the fourth year for the Go Eddie 5k. 

“With all of the treatment and therapies, continued care for Eddie costs $40,000 per year,” LaVern Hershberger, one of Eddie’s classmates, said. “We want to help take care of that financial burden for Eddie so he can keep getting better and better. Our goal is to cover 100% of his recovery costs.”

After the accident, Eddie couldn’t walk, talk, write or even feed himself. He now has seen a major improvement to his balance and is able to walk with assistance and string together sentences. His recovery includes physical therapy, massage therapy, occupational therapy and even Botox injections to improve mobility. Since last year Eddie’s walking and his ability to sit up with minimal assistance has greatly improved. “His positive attitude has been a major help in his recovery,” said Leroy Miller, Eddie’s father.

“Eddie is now 25 years old and who thought after six years and three months, that even small improvements make exciting days, even when the sun ain’t shining!... Being disabled doesn’t mean we can’t do God’s work by being an inspiration and having a positive attitude, encouragement and having character in life.”

REGISTRATION FEE: $40.00 - Includes chip timed 5k race, event t-shirt, and a chance at race awards!

• GRAND PRIZE: Top overall Men's & Women's winners will both receive a $500 gift card to Homestead Furniture

RACE DAY:

• 3:00 pm Registration & Sign-In Opens
• 4:00 pm 1 Mile Kid's Run
• 4:30 pm 5k Race (Registration table closes 15 minutes before 5k starts)
